Updates April 2010

Been working pretty hard on developing a lot of other web presences, new projects and independent consulting collective of sorts Zero Strategist.com which has left me with very little time work on my own site. Had to put aside some time to work on my digital home here and implement some of the cool stuff I have been using on other projects.

Incremental Improvements

  • Manually migrating over some posts (continued post-dating over the next month)
  • Imported all old posts from old standalone blog (YES!)
  • Reintegrated standalone photoblog post images and scrapped old photoblog
  • Implemented new blogging schedule and calendar (YES!)
  • Got my pro-vimeo account (going to be a lot of video coming soon)
  • Implemented randomized quotes bar, expanding quotes
  • Got a new MP3 plugin running and embedded
  • Restructured, updating About, Bio, Resume and CV pages
  • Working on re-releasing the Spoken Word and Music pages

I am really happy that I am getting all of this squared away and that my web presences are actually beginning to represent my work and who I am in the way I want. More soon, stay tuned.

Moving from Reston Virginia to Portland Oregon

Moving to the West Coast for an epic life change!

We have made the capital decision to exit Northern Virgina / Washington DC stage left effective immediately.  Thirty years in NOVA was enough superficiality to last three lifetimes!  So to one and all Virginians…PEACE OUT! I encourage to look for places to live that has a better quality of life and cost of living. The world is a huge place and there are so many better places to live. Time to vote on your feel people & take your taxpayer dollars elsewhere, because you are no longer getting your moneys worth or your quality of life for what you are foregoing.

Though Reston, Virginia was a “great place” to grow up and live in the 90′s or about about 10-15 years ago, it has undoubtedly “jumped the shark.”  And frankly, either getting devoured by a metaphorical great white or being turned into a mindless zombie was not just not very high on the to do list for this lifetime (sorry to disappoint).  Reston as a town has certainly lost its original plan, promise, spark, values, and community.  It is certainly not a place I would want to raise either of my children under any circumstances.   I am really really really really really really looking forward getting off the never-ending hamster wheel and moving to the West Coast for an epic life change!

I have undoubtedly achieved one of my life’s goals as I am leaving Reston, Virgina / NOVA permanently. Looking forward to getting on a plane October 14th 2009 bound for Portland, Oregon.

Rebranding, Rebuilding Myself – Todd Pitt 3.0

Rebranding & rebuilding is time consuming but a continuous process…

As I have been shifting myself away from putting the majority of my effort and time into working on Enterprise 2.0 (for work), I have been spending a lot of time catching up with the Blogosphere getting my RSS feeds on lock-down.  Making the information I want and need flow from everywhere to me has been daunting and I have had to come up with a strategy to separate my personal and professional endeavors because of the amount of content I create + different areas of interest.  The fact is that I got so busy and focused on doing work work, that I did not devote the attention I should have into my sites, so it is no surprise that they stagnated and became artifacts.

“Dude that is so Web 1.0!” &  “You are so Web 1.0!” is my new ultimate insult…and in this case I would freely use it against myself.  The usual excuses: well I got married, had a kid, got a power job etc.  There are no excuses Todd! Get er done.

I am channeling all of my energy and passion into my own Web 2.0 projects now.  I put a large focus on rebuilding my entire online presence (my Todd Pitt brand or whatever) which has meant tearing down old sites, rethinking, redesigning them into faster, more efficient, and immediate content distribution mechanisms.

Though my old artist site (I’ll call it Todd Pitt 1.0) was artsy, custom, had dynamic elements it was too bulky and cumbersome to update.  I had to have access to Dreamweaver and my home PC to do it…this just stopped meeting my needs. Because it was not entirely web based I stopped updating it, cause it took too much time so it just became an un-representative artifact.

So now I am psyched to turn the entire site into a Worpress weblog rather then just have WP as a sub-component (used to be toddpitt.com\blog).  It is going to be a fun an challaging exercise to re-hack my favorite WP Theme and then to re-organize all of the other site content so that it is easy to find and navigate throught the wordpress medium.  I love creative technology exercises, this one will give me a chance to dive back into CSS, PHP, XML, graphic design, photo optimization, YouTube, Flickr, APIs…etc.

Check back in a few days and watch me pimp this!

Todd Pitt.com Reborn Running Entirely on WordPress

Todd Pitt.com has been reborn into Version 3.0 on November 27th 2008!

The entire site is running exclusively on WordPress. I made the decision to migrate all of my data & presence into WP from a custom coded PHP artists site (Version 2.0), because WP is becoming more sophisticated + fully featured. It will centralize the blog & all of my content into an integrated presence. I am always thinking of ways to improve, speeding up, & make the site, my various projects more accessible.

I hope you enjoy the next iteration of my presence
